Introduction
The TT Commons Pro typeface was created relatively recently in 2018. I reached out to Pavel Emelyanov to request a brief biography and insights into his creative process—including the typeface’s purpose, the team behind it, and the overall vision. This information helped me proceed with how I wanted to showcase TT Commons Pro in this type specimen book.
Concept and approach
The Challenge
The key challenge was balancing the minimalist style of TT Commons Pro with engaging layouts that highlight its range and personality. Every page had to feel visually intriguing while still keeping the focus on the typeface itself — a true exercise in restraint, consistency, and attention to typographic detail.

Creating a type specimen book for TT Commons Pro challenged me to balance clean, minimalist design with layouts that truly highlight the typeface’s character. Every spread was an infusion of my own personality while also focusing on the integrity of the typeface. This type specimen book’s spreads demonstrate how playful it can be. TT Commons Pro effortlessly shifts from clean, legible text to bold, expressive headlines or type designs. It's perfect for any design project. Like Futura and Montserrat, TT Commons Pro stands the test of time—a modern sans-serif that balances classic elegance with contemporary versatility.
